Identifying and Coping with Compassion Fatigue

Identifying and Coping with Compassion Fatigue In-Person

Caregiving is a bittersweet experience, allowing professionals and loved ones to ensure the best care for individuals who are unable to care for themselves entirely. it can be rewarding to see progress or to show ones compassion to someone in need. However, sometimes, the burden of caregiving can be unappreciated, overwhelming, and isolating. This can make caregivers feel selfish for taking time for themselves or not wanting to always be at someone's beck and call. Compassion fatigue is a real condition that can effect caregivers of all kinds and of all depths of empathy. It is important to recognize it and name it when it strikes in order to take steps to manage and mitigate it. Join Melissa Fields, Director of Quality and Clinical Operations at Ashtabula Mental Health Services for a broad-ranging discussion of this important topic and how to combat its effects.
